LAVERNE GRANT

FOUNDER/CEO

For over twenty years, Laverne Grant has worked with populations of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in positions of both the "front line" and in administration. A native of Toronto, Canada she has served in various agencies, residential and day treatment facilities, and non-profit organizations both in Canada and the United States.

Through her experiences she gained valuable knowledge and proficiency in regards to program development and implementation. Her goal has always been to assist youth in realizing their potential, overcoming challenges, achieving goals, and actualizing their dreams while providing and facilitating quality programming to the highest level of efficiency.

When asked "Why Vox Invictus?", Laverne responds, "I started Vox Invictus because I suffered a traumatic experience at an early age. Sharing my experience led to consequences that led me to believe it wasn't safe to tell. I spent the next few years suffering in silence which led to many deviant behaviors. I was misunderstood, labeled and cast aside."

"In my teen years I was introduced to a program called Positive Peer Culture where myself and other young people were trained to lead guided conversations where students could discuss their problems, then receive help by being connected to the appropriate resources. It was then that I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life providing opportunities for young people to share their experiences in a safe environment, and be supported in seeking and receiving assistance."

"Vox Invictus (Unconquerable Voice) was chosen so that the people we serve would know that nothing or no one should ever rob them of their voice-their right to share their experience. Our words speak life. We should use our voices to speak our truths, encourage ourselves, stand for our convictions, and motivate others."

Laverne states she loves nothing more than working with children and youth who, for many, are considered a loss cause. "Seeing those that were considered hopeless, become a great testament of success is what make it all worth while." -Laverne Grant
